Kerala, according to the legends, was created by Lord Parasurama. It has the sea, the midlands and the hills in less than 90kms of travel. In addition it has serene backwaters that catered as inland waterways and fertile land for paddy cultivation.
Since Kerala is blessed by the sea, the sun, green villages, misty heights, dense rain forests and no desert, it is captioned as "Gods Own Country". It is the most densely populated state of India with literacy standards and health standards matching europe. Moreover it is very peaceful and three religions - Hinduism, Islam and Christianity co exist peacefully.

7/8/07We Tuk-tuk’d back to Willingdon Island and the Hilton and were greeted by half a dozen employees at the front desk. I told one of the women who we were and that we had an Hhonors reward stay and she said “Yes. Yes” and proceeded to give me a $109/night room. I told her that it was a points stay and she looked at me with the same vacuous look as last week. Luckily, Charles, the one helpful guy at the hotel showed up. When I explained what was going on, he sa...

We got up at 5.30 AM. Last night my Mom had made Roti (Bread.. Indian style.. very much like Tortilla) and some veg dishes for dinner. I had mentioned to her that Prashant might prefer eating Roti than Rice. We mallus eat boiled rice - sort of brown rice in its thickness and flavor - and curry as our regular meal. You need some time to get used to its taste. Prashant got to meet my parents and my elder bro who were at home. I wanted to show Prashant our paddy fields (where we grow rice in tra...

Hi all, From Goa we headed out to Hampi a large temple complex East of Goa. I think we are beginning to get templed out. The one interesting thing about the area was the amazing rock formations like mountains, huge 20-30 ton boulders all jumbled together. Constance was blessed by an elephant so I suppose she won't have to worry about losing her memory when she gets old. Of course she had to slip the elephant a few rupees. The Hampi Hilton (a division o...

Much to my delight, my friend Elissa came to India for work, and at the last minute found out that I’m here, too. Elissa had a four-hour (!) conversation with our mutual friend Sharon last December, and the subject of India never came up. Thankfully when Elissa talked more recently to our other mutual friend, Gabby, she mentioned her upcoming trip, and Gabby told her I’m here. Phew! That was a near miss. Elissa and I decided to spend a week together in Kerala...
