Kentucky Fried Chicken Jakarta Reviews
KFC in Indonesia Mar 16, 2011
I usually don't do reviews on fast-food chains for the simple fact that they are basically all the same...except when you leave the country, and then the menus can change drastically to accommodate the culture of the country. Kentucky Fried Chicken is quite popular throughout Asia, particularly in Jakarta (where their Asian headquarters are located). In the United States, KFC's menu is nearly consistent across the land: besides the chicken, you have the mashed potatoes/gravy, baked beans, cole slaw, corn, mac & cheese, and biscuits. And then you have specialty items like the Snacker and the Double Down. I have not been to every single KFC in the U.S., so perhaps in some areas there are exceptions to the menu that I am not aware of.
In Indonesia, KFC keeps the same recipe for its chicken, in both crispy and original, and it pretty much tastes the same. The one difference with the chicken is that it seems there's not quite as much meat on the bone as the chicken in the states. Once you get past the chicken, the menu starts to look slightly different, maybe more than Col. Sanders might have ever imagined. They do have fries, but instead of mashed potatoes, the common side is rice. Some of their other sides are oriental bento and chicken soup. They don't have items like the Double Down or Snackers, but they do have what is called the "Colonel's Burger" and a fish filet burger. Prices in Indonesian rupiah equate to about the same as what we're familiar with in the states.
