Southern End of the Park Nov 14, 2010
From the parking at the end of Cheatham Hill Drive, there are several choices of trails for hiking or running. It's here that the Confederate line was dug in at the spot known as "the angle". over 10,000 soldiers were killed or wounded during the battle that took place here in June, 1864. Most of the union soldiers were from Illinois, while the defenders were from Tennessee.

In 1914, on the 50th anniversary of the battle, union veterans erected a monument to their slain comrades on 60 acres purchased from local farmers. These 60 acres became the nucleus of the national park we see today.

Nice outdoors area with a little view and a little history. May 06, 2008
Kennesaw Mountain is a great place for a lazy afternoon or weekend, and even an active one. There are several trails at the mountain. My favorite is the 5 mile loop that takes you up Big Kennesaw and Little Kennesaw. Bring plenty of water, because it gets very hot!

There are re-enactors that give demonstrations on living and artillery. There are also free guided walks on history, wildflowers, and birds. Check the website for schedules. There is a small museum that has some relics and a short movie. The best part about the mountain is simply the area. It is beautiful and the perfect place to take your family or go on a picnic or hike. On the weekends there are always many families and people with dogs enjoying the area.
