Kembang Goela Restaurant, Jakarta Travel Reviews

Jan 10, 2008
This restaurant bring the air of Dutch colonial era in Indonesia. With the old style decoration, mixed between dutch, indonesian and chinese influence. This place is acozy place to hand out and have a long lunch or dinner. And maybe if you're lucky, you can spotted one or two local celebrities:)
The famous dish is Rijsttafel, the ancient meal style the dutch normally had.
As taken from Wikipedia: Rijsttafel is:
An Indonesian rice table (in Dutch, rijsttafel) consists of rice accompanied by between twelve and thirty, often spicy, side dishes served in small portions. Popular side dishes include egg rolls, sambals, satay, fish, fruit, vegetables, pickles, and nuts. It is a Dutch colonial adaptation of the Indonesian dinner, and popular only in the Netherlands. However, a growing number of restaurants and hotels in the tourist areas in Indonesia serve rice table.

But I didn't tried that one, since it would be too big for my stomach space.
We ordered:
- Lumpia Semarang, chopped young bambooshoots wrapped in thing dough and theh deep fried ~ 3USD (which is too costly seeing the size of the food)
- Buntut balado, fried oxtail covered in red hot chillies! ~ 7USD.
- Ice lemon tea: with lemongrass as the decoration
- Dessert of homade icecream which taste good! cost ~ 2USD / scoops of 3 varieties: vanilla, cocholate and strawberry.

The decoration of this restaurant is so nice and interesting. Even i took a shoot in their beautiful bathroom:)
