Kelley's Island, An Island For All Seasons! Located in the western basin of Lake Erie, Kelley's is easily accessible by ferry either from Marblehead, Ohio or Sandusky, Ohio. The entire island measures 4 square miles and is considered the largest fresh water American island in Lake Erie.

Once you land on Kelley's, the major modes of transportation are by golf cart (there are many rental companies), bicycle (again there are numerous rental companies), or easy walking.

A couple don't miss spots are Glacial Groves State Memorial and Inscription Rock State Memorial. These places are full of the island's history.

Accomodations include camping at the state park, hotels/motels, cottages, and bed and breakfast inns. There are several unique restaurants serving a large selection of items located in the area around the ferry docks. You will be able to find the right souvenir in the many quaint little shops, again within a short distance of the ferry docks!

Come and spend the day on Kelley's!

Plans were made to explore Kelley's Island, Ohio, by bicycle one September day.  We all had our bikes checked out and tuned up, but were we ready for the challenge?  Sure!  With the bicycles loaded, my husband and I along with our daughter and son-in-law drove a little over an hour to our north.  Destination - Marblehead, Ohio - where we would ride the ferry to Kelley's Island.  We paid the fare for ourselves and bikes ($40 round trip), and headed off for the short tr...

After getting off the ferry, we stopped first at inscription rock.  It was this large slab of limestone that had some bird poo and a dead fish on it.  Not real thrilling, I thought.  Then I read what it was all about.  There are pictures carved into this rock that date from 1200 to 1600 AD.  Wow!  Most of them have weathered completely away, but you still faintly make out some pictures.  It was really an amazing thing to see. From there it was time to eat.&...
