Keila Waterfall Reviews
Really nice little fall Sep 22, 2012
I had been at the Keila Waterfall or locally Keila juga some years ago and I also wanted friends to see it, as it is a popular tourist destination and I like the simplicity of it. The waterfall is located on the Keila River, near Keila-Joa and it is the third most powerful waterfall in Estonia after Narva Waterfall and Jägala Waterfall. The Keila Waterfall is close to 6 meters high and about 60 meters wide.
On the right bank of the waterfall there is an abandoned estate with a park, which was constructed back in 1833. The adjacent park occupies an area of 25 hectares and more than 80 different species of trees and shrubs is growing there.
Upstream of the waterfall you can see an interesting bridge, which is supposed to symbolize love. There is a tradition among local newly wed to come to the waterfall on their wedding day; here they have to fasten a padlock on the chain bridge, throw the key into the fast-flowing river and thereby bringing fortune to their marriage.
You can also visit here the small hydro power plant that is located next to the fall and it is actually also possible to park there. You can also use the parking area near the waterfall but you have to pay there.
