after an hour's ride on the remorque-motor through the dusty and bumpy road, which was a butt numbing but terrific experience, we finally reached kbal spean. along the way we saw all these dusty faces and cring children, and it was depressing to see them playing in mud, seemingly without a future to look forward to. we had to hike a long way up, and this is definitely the longest and most richly rewarding mountain hike throughout the trip. at the top was a waterfall and a little higher up, we started seeing these sculptures and most importantly, what we've gone up to see, the river of a thousand lingas. it was amazing looking at all these lingas under the water, how the people have thought of carving them under the water. we were told that during monsoon season, the water was alot higher and it was even more amazing looking at the carvings all the way under the clear river.

…viewing the sunrise at Angkor Wat, view a couple more of the outlying temples and my big adventure for the day was a trip out to Kbal Spean - which was in a national park and carvings were made in the rocks and stones on the mountains, with a beautiful waterfall to also view. When we arrived at Angkor Wat, it was still relatively dark and it was exciting to see so many… Siem Reap - Day 4 - Angkor Wat Sunrise & Kbal Spean |

Kbal Spean.
We were initally a little unsure of whether this is a good idea as Banteay Srey is about 40 km from Siem Reap and Kbal Spean 15km further, but the price for a car seems too high… Up Up and Away |

Kbal Spean was another two hours ride down from town. Kbal Spean is a waterfall famed for its carvings in the bedrock. This requires a climp uphill (see a pattern here?) before we reached the waterfall proper. Being the dry season, there wasn't much… Days 4 to 6 - The Beginning of the End |

Va took us to some of the outer temples including Banteay Srei and Kbal Spean. Banteay was nice, but definitly having the tourist overload. The temple was very well preserved and the artwork was of the least eroded I have seen. Kbal Spean was a bit further out and coupled with a 1500 m hike… Some of the outer temples |
