Kayes Vacation Guide

Kayes is both a beautiful, lush town fed by the Senegal River and alternately a hot, dry and dusty place. The land surrounding the river is green with irrigated agriculture of all kinds and seems to be an oasis in the desert with its acres of fields, tree-lined neighborhoods and scattered palms. On the banks of the river, almost every native crop imaginable is grown and there you will find the greenest areas of fields and trees. On the river, fishermen in boats cast nets to capture the bounty of fish the river provides.

Kayes is on the Dakar - Niger Railway line and also has an airport with flights to Bamako. It is one of many stops for travelers between points in West Africa, whether by train or bus. Being a travel stop is what it's most noted for and tourism is not big here but the constant activity of travelers passing through provides much of the commerce the locals rely on for income.
