Kayenta is mostly known as the city south of Monument Valley. Another reservation town on the Navajo Reservation without alot of traffic lights nor the glam of bigger cities. A few hotels to lay your head down for a good nights sleep and plenty of natural beauty to surround it. Temperature hovers around triple digits in the heat of summer but also is known to have snow during the winter months. No bars or nightlife due to the law of no alcohol being allowed on the reservation at all.

Early morning in Kayenta
posted by:

OMG.. this morning was awesome. I got up early and got the sunrise and the colors were so beautiful. It colored the landscape and the mountains in a ray of golden orange and yellow. It was so amazing. At that point it didn't matter that I didn't get to see the sun rise in Monument Valley. I thought this was good enough. :o)) I went downstairs to have breakfast at around 7.30-ish and looked around at the decorations etc. It hit me that this Hampton Inn was different than the others. This…

The long and winding road

We started our day in Moab, which is a cute town in southern Utah. Its also about 5 minutes away from Arches National Park, our first stop today. The park is home to 2,000 natural made arches, which we saw only a handful of. We got to climb around the arches (well underneath), which is always fun! Afterwards we continued to drive south towards Arizona, and through Monument Valley (think of the scene in Forest Gump where he is just running through the desert). Beautiful out there...looks like …

We have finally arrived... it took a couple hours but it was fine...  we were winging this whole trip, so it was good time. I just didn't think we would be that tired... lol  - idiot I know. But it was nice to get to stay in Kayenta, which is what I think the center of the northern az resides. Close to the Four Corners, Canyon De Chelly, Monument Valley and of course Page... = )    so the days journey was over, tomorrow is the big plan to start seeing the attractions...

Vakantie Dag 6 - Durango (CO) - Mexican Hat (UT) - Monument Valley (AZ) - Kayenta (AZ)
posted by:
May 16, 2007 - Dec 25, 2008
