You think Hawaii and the South Pacific are paradise? If you're ever in NZ, you must make the trip up to Abel Tasman NP. It's on the northwest coast of the South Island- a stunning park that boasts clear water, seals, white beaches, and forest. It's completely inaccessible by car, so you have to pay for either a water taxi or a kayaking trip. The taxis go along different drop off points on the coast, and you can hike or kayak to another point. The water is amazingly clear, and a friend of mine even saw a stingray while he was kayaking. If you go in summer the sandflies are pretty fierce, but I went in autumn and I didn't get a single bite. There were also very few people, which made the silence (barring the sound of water) even better. Though Fiordland is by far my favorite place in NZ, Abel Tasman is a close runner-up.
