Kawthoung Overview

Kawthoung, in British times called Victoria Point, is one of the few overland entry points to Myanmar, with boats from Ranong running all day, 100 Baht per person, the Thai immigration is open from 8 am.
Buses and minibuses take 11 to 14 hours on a fairly good road (but on some parts construction is still going on) to Myeik, the next big town in Myanmar.
There is quite some potential with the Mergui Islands, but so far only a expensive Casino Resort and expensive snorkeling day trips or even more expensive liveabord dive trips from Thailand.
But I did meet people trying to get the permit for accommodation on the islands.
