Canyoneering at Matutinao River Sep 22, 2015
This was seriously one of the best things I've done as a tourist... Like a real-life adventure ha ha...

A lot of people are familiar with Kawasan Falls and they are beautiful, the color of the water is something special. However, going down the river canyon and reaching waterfalls is much, much better! You are taken by motorcycles (your ass will suffer, be sure of it) all the way up and I am not sure how these drivers do it because it's so steep, rocky... hold on tight! :D

The first challenge is jumping down the waterfall... it's not very high, but it's a flowing, narrow body of water so this is where most people get stuck. Once you've done that, the adventure can begin! You'll jump a few more times (there is a much higher jump if you dare), slide down, swim, walk through the rainforest & some mud... It's not as difficult as it sounds, though. However, you still have to be careful because other than the helmet & life vests, well... there's nothing else available. And shoes.

The canyon is really beautiful, wild, clean... How come this place hasn't become famous yet?! The locals told the awareness is rapidly growing, so...

I forgot to add that I believe it can only be done as a guided tour, but that didn't put a dampener on the experience. There were only 5 of us for example. I believe the price was around 1000 php.

If you're in south Cebu, do not miss it!

A beautiful natural treasure! Jan 02, 2014
I was blown away at how fun this place was. Not only is it beautiful, but there's plenty to do there as well. I paid for a package deal and in the package I got admission, lunch, a porter, a raft ride with a life jacket, and transportation. Each one of these can be purchased individually at the falls, and very cheaply, too.

Your transportation will drop you off in front of a Catholic church, and from there you follow the trail on the right side of the building. Just walk along the trail (or follow where everyone else is walking) for about 15 minutes. You'll walk through a couple hotels and restaurants before you reach the main falls. At the main level, you can pay 800 pesos for a raft ride underneath the falls and let the water pummel you. Pretty exhilarating! You can also jump into the water from the top of the falls. I didn't have the guts to do so, but you have the option. Just tell one of the porters and they can move the rafts for you and make sure you hit water and nothing else.

You can swim and ride a raft at the main level, or you can hike uphill on the left side of the falls. Head up for about 5 minutes and you'll see the higher tiers of the falls. At the highest tier, there's more swimming space, more space to dive into the water, and a rope swing.

When you get tired, there are restaurants and benches for you to relax in. The water is sparkling blue, if freezing cold, and very deep in some places. It was definitely worth the 3 hour drive from Cebu City!
