Kavaratti Vacation Guide
Kavaratti is the administrative capital of the Lakshadweep islands (a Union Territory) of India. It is one of the coral islands, made up entirely of coral deposits. It is a relatively small islands with an area of less than 3 sq. km. The locals, mostly Muslim by religion, mainly subsist on fishing and coir related industry. Most of their rations have to be shipped in from the nearest port which is Cochin.
One side of the island is a vast lagoon which supports a rich coral life and varied colourful fauna. An excellent place for scuba, snorkeling and other water activities. The weather is rough, rainy and windy during monsoon. The tourist season is from October to about April, during which the weather is very moderate and the lagoon is calm and ideal for exploring.
