Bed but no breakfast in central Florence May 08, 2010
We spent 6 days in Florence in October/November 2009 and chose the Katti House Bed & Breakfast based on a recommendation by Rick Steves in his book "Rick Steves Italy 2009."

The price (55 euros per night) and the location (10 min walk from train station and Uffizi) make this a good choice for those on a budget. However be prepared for rooms that are very basic and with no amenities. Also they call themselves a bed & breakfast but there was no breakfast offered during our stay.

The rooms are on the 3rd and 4th floor so it is nice workout carrying your luggage up the stairs. The room we had was one with a shared bathroom which was not the cleanest. We also had to switch rooms in the middle of our stay but unsure of the reason. The couple who run the hotel are very nice but speak little to no English so it was hard to communicate and we forgot our Italian phrasebook.

Across from the building was a laundromat and there were a couple of internet cafes a few doors down. A bakery/bar was on the corner and a few stores and restaurants were close by.

We walked everywhere - to the Uffizi, to Ponte Vechhio, Il Duomo, Santa Maria Novello to name a few - and the hotel location was always about 20 minutes away.

Katti House Bed & Breakfast Florence Overview

The Bed & Breakfast Katti House is excellently situated in the centre of Florence, only a short walk from the main places of historic and cultural interest, such as the Santa Maria Novella church, the Duomo cathedral and the splendid San Lorenzo basilica. This one is renowned for its New Sacristy that Michelangelo designed with the purpose to host the graves of Lorenzo and Giuliano de' Medici, creating one of the masterpieces of architecture and sculpture of the Italian Renaissance: the Medici chapels. The area is full of bars, restaurants and shops. The ancient San Lorenzo market is also easily reachable walking. A stay at the property, a typical Florence building dating back to the 15th century, without lift, will allow you to breath the atmosphere of this beautiful city, landmark in art in Europe and all over the world. The owner is available to book museums or restaurants, thus ensuring guests a pleasant and relaxing stay.
