back into medieval times Dec 25, 2011
The remains of this former castle of the barons of Hoen is situated in the north-east of Belgium, to be more precise, in the province of Vlaams-Brabant.

Of the medieval castle that stood here, only the tower (or a part of it anyway!) remained, as well as the 17th-century farm with its gatehouse, stables and barn.

In 1995, the tower ruin and the castle farm became a protected monument.

After years of vacancy and decay it became property of Ward Vertommen who restored the buildings and till this day rents out the barn for events and other festivities.

One of those many events is a medieval family day which is held here almost every year in May. On this day you can learn more about medieval times. The re-enactment is really amazing and fun to watch to. A great experience to say the least!
