Kashgar Vacation Guide
If Kashgar is not on your list of places to visit, put it there! It is an amazingly, culturally rich part of China that is not to be missed.
The main cultural groups in Kashgar are the Uighur and Han peoples. The Uighur people serve up some amazing food! Make sure you visit one of the many well-know Muslim restaurants in the area for an wonderful feast (the restaurants are very intricately decorated, too, making for a wonderful experience). Don't to forget to drink your fill of pomegranate juice!
Thing to do:
1. Visit Old Town Kashgar: (you need a tour guide for this) to see how many of the Uighur people really live. (Your guide might be able to get you "tea time" at someone's house too. An experience not to be passed up.) There is also a market in this part of town, which sells EVERYTHING (no tour guide required). Lots of fun, but make sure you don't visit a store in a large group, or they will mark-up the prices like crazy!
2. Go to the International Bazaar:silks, wool, cashmere...shoes, pillows, blankets. It's all there, and for super cheap. Don't forget to negotiate! It's part of the game.
3. Drive out to Karakuri Lake: (usually done with a tour guide) a LONG drive, but with some amazing views. Camel and Horse rides available at the lake. There is a decent restaurant at the lake (a bit overpriced, as it is the only thing in the area, but not too bad.) But, watch out, it's at a pretty high elevation and can make you a bit light headed.

I absolutely LOVED Kashgar. I would like to go back and spend more time there. The food: AMAZING. I think Uighur food is some of the best I've had in my life. Finally! Freedom from brown-gravy covered Beijing food! There were some amazing spices...and the Bazaar! So much fun! Old Town Kashgar is su…
