Kasha Boutique Hotel Zanzibar Reviews
A private and relaxing place May 04, 2011
The Kasha Boutique hotel is a small private boutique on the north east coast of Zanzibar. It takes roughly an hour to get to down some paved roads initially and then some dirt roads (bit bumpy) that follow the coast and go through a couple of fishing villages en route. The ride was a great introduction to Zanzibar before emerging through the gate of the walled complex to see this beautifully manicured hotel property.
The reception area is a large covered pavilion with thatched roof decorated in a traditional style. This will be the area for meals and drinks also so you spend a fair amount of time up here and will also use the free Wi-Fi. Our hosts welcomed us with a refreshing drink and gave us the lay of the land pointing out important information on the local area. They then directed us to our bungalow which was huge and very tastefully decorated. The veranda on the back was the best part with its shaded sofas, sun loungers and private plunge pool all overlooking the ocean. The bungalow has all the toiletries you need, fresh bottled water every day, mosquito nets and insect spray so you don’t need to worry about anything.
The infinity pool overlooking the ocean is the centrepiece of the hotel with ample sun loungers and umbrellas surrounding it and helpful staff ready with food and drinks as you need them. We spent most afternoons by the pool in the sun and most mornings in our private plunge pool which had the sun then. The place is very relaxing.
The food was good with a standard selection of breakfast options and a three course meal each night for dinner usually featuring fresh fish. The food started to seem the same after a few days but it was still good and you had an option to go to the resort next door for dinner if you fancied a change. There were always a couple of choices for each course so I think you’ll usually find something you like.
The beach is sandy at low tide but the water isn’t very deep as it is actually a reef and loaded with sea urchins. At low tide you can borrow some sea sandals and take a walk out to the reef and be amongst the locals fishing but it is quite an effort. We didn’t really spend much time on the beach. We did have a boat come and pick us up for a full day of snorkelling and a seafood BBQ at a private beach which the hotel can organise for you and is well worth it.
There are other tours that the hotel will organise too and all the information is available in your room. After 9 nights at Kasha in December’s brilliant sun I felt truly relaxed and would recommend it for any couple looking for the same experience. The value is great for such a private and personalised experience.
