Kasaan Overview

Technically an "organized village" established in 1938, Kasaan is an exceedingly small (population 49) settlement along the shores of Price of Wales Island in Alaska. The community is closely allied with the local Hiada culture, with more than half of its residents claiming Haida ancestry.

There isn't much to the village beyond a few spread out houses, though they have recently (2012) opened a small cafe were you can buy snacks. coffee and even espresso! You can also buy t-shirts there to "save the Whale House", which is a stellar attraction here. About a mile's hike from the town dock, the Whale House is the last standing Haida great house in the United States, currenlty being restored.
