Nothing is more precious to the hard core Bangalorian than the 2 words "Gandhi Bazaar". It's been around forever, and despite India's "modernisation" continues to retain its old world feel and charm. The area is very well shaded, lots of trees and very cool. Also, it's a walker's paradise - fruit and veg vendors, flowers (we Hindus use to adorn our idols with) and of course the food! I had breakfast at Vidharythi Bhavan, specialising in masala dosa (think spicy crepe with a spicy mashed potat…

Second day started off with the usual breakfast... and next we decided to go to the Virupaksha temple. There was an tamed young elephant near the entrance... was nice to feed it some bananas, give it some coins and get blessed with a tap on the head with its trunk!! We took a guide to explain the history of the temple, and like the Vishnu temple, this one also has the "musical pillars". There are many such sets of pillars, and in each set each individual pillar gives out a separate note…

I took these pictures on the day before my departure. Although Bengaluru is my home and I go often on holiday, this particular trip was a business trip so I didn't get much time to look around. I only had weekends.
So much has been written about Bengaluru the last few years, most of it seems to be related to software companies and 'backend' jobs offshoring to India's Silicon Valley that I thought being a Bangalorian, I'd share the less-techie side and show the more colourful …

First stop in India was Bangalore. I did not stay there as I got a pick up to go to Mysore straight away.
I have been in Mysore for the past 2 weeks and I love it here. This is a great place if you want to study yoga. Great teachers and quality yoga. I am studing with Barath Shetty which I have to say is amazing. He is going to be as famous as Pattabi Jois. I am convince of this. His technique is Hatta - Iyengar and I have learned more in 2 weeks than in 2 years in London. He is very seriou…

Gokarn (the cow's ear). 5am. The beach, one of theholiest pilgrimage sights for Hindus. Birthplace of their diety, Shiva. Cows everywhere. Every morning at daybreak men with painted foreheads, wearingblack lungies (skirts), shirtless and barefoot would pile out of s.u.v.'s, with the most obnoxious sounding air horns, to bathe in the holywaters. One main street runs through town and is lined with small resturants, internet cafes, tailors, fabric shops, vegie stands and such. Throughout the stre…

We parted with our scooters in Goa after a few days riding to nearby beaches and lounging, with me at one point sitting back and enjoying a manicure/pedicure while another gal used the threading technique to clean up my eyebrows. All that pampering cost me about 8 bucks - I felt guilty paying so little. Anjuna, more specifically the bar across from our guest house, exploded with people the Sunday before we left, promising a crazy party. The people watching was something to b…

The bus journey from Aleppey to Mangalore took almost 10 hours. I should say it was a bit tiring. I am going to bed and wake up Monday morning as if it is another usual work week. However, I now have a ton of energy all gained from this very exciting road trip!!!

We got off the overnight train in Bangalore and got a long 3 hour bus into mysore. Bit tiring that bit - but we got there - negotiated auto rickshaws at the station - and were off to the hotel. Or for some of us - to a restaurant of the same name whch caused some kerfuffle... But eventually we were there - with the help of a man who would become our stalker - trying to be 'helpful' but trying to get us to see his mum making incense - mysore's trademark - and then trying…
