Karen Blixen Museum Rungsted Reviews
Check it out if you are a Karen Blixen fan, but skip it if you are not or never heard of her Apr 25, 2015
Located in the town of Rungsted, the Karen Blixen Museum was once the home of the Danish author, who has written books, like “Out of Africa”.
Getting there should be straight-forward, as you just have to follow the signs. I say “should”, because I ended up missing one of the signs, and went the wrong direction. You can read about that in the blog.
In the museum, there are descriptions in English and Danish, that tell the story of Blixen’s life and how she became a successful author. Plus displays of items that once belonged to her, like a typewriter, and early handwritten works. Also, a display of all the books in shelves. And supposedly, you can listen to some of her works on headphones, but I did not get a chance to do that.
I was only able to visit the museum for around 15 minutes, but judging from what I have seen and read, it was good. Enough to want to learn a little more about her, so the presentation was interesting enough. But I would say that the Karen Blixen Museum is only a must-visit for those who are fans of Blixen. For everyone else who never heard of her or any of her books, I would say, definitely skip it, as it is a small museum and out-of-the way.
There is also park and bird sanctuary, in the back of the museum. You can pick up a map, to find the benches that are named after people who were involved in Blixen’s life. Admission to this part is free, but to be honest, I did not find it anything special, as it just looks like any other park. Only worth going through, if going between the museum and the train station, as it does save some time between the two.
