Very cheap hotel in the center of Cabarete Apr 05, 2008
This is a pretty cheap hotel at the border of the center of Cabarete.

The beach is less than a minute away from the doorstep and you can be sitting at a bar on the beach in less than 2 minutes.

It's actually the first hotel on the right side, coming from Puerto Plata/Sosua, when you enter the center of Cabarete.

Because many tourists in the Dominican Republic will come on a all-inclusive holiday package, they will be in the bigger all-inclusive hotels. Kaoba doesn't offer all-inclusive and therefore this is a quiet hotel. You won't be disturbed by noisy people.

An other group that comes to Cabarete are the (kite-) surfers and in Cabarete there are even special hotels for these people. So most of the surfers will be located in these hotels.

There are also some other reasons why this hotel is a paradise of rest:

- It's is not directly in the hustling, bustling centre of Cabarete, but just on the outside, 300 meters away of it.

- The rooms are not on the streetside of the hotel. The rooms in the main building are facing to the backside of the hotel. The other rooms that are not in the main building are "protected" by the main building from most of the noise of the Cabarete centre.

This hotel offers a variety of room types;

1) economic bungalow

with just the minimal basics; bed, shower, toilet, closet, safe, telephone, a ceiling fan and a refrigerator.

2) Comfort rooms.

These rooms are located in the backside of the hotel garden. It's very quiet at there. The rooms are small but comes with more luxury The extras are TV and Internet connection (additional costs)

3) Deluxe rooms

This type of rooms are located in the main building of the hotel. These are way more spacious than the bungalows and comfort rooms. Actually they are studios or apartments. All rooms do have a kitchenette. They have an overview onto the pool and the hotel garden.

4) Suites

There are 2 suites at this hotel. I guess it can become pretty hot in there because they're on the topside of the main building.

When you not care for luxury and would like a cheap hotel, I would recommend the bungalow. The temperatures in the Dominican Republic are high, (even when I was there in September the temperatures did rise to 40C (104F)) that you would spend most of your time outside in the pool, the beach or the bars. You would use your room mainly to sleep and shower.

The people of this hotel are very friendly and are willing to do anything for you. They're always interested to getting to know you and are always in for a talk.

Their service is excellent. Everyday your room will be cleaned and your beds will be made. When there's a problem they will try to solve it the same day. When it can't be solved immediately, they will move you to another room. I had a toilet that came loose from the floor and water flooded in my bathroom instead into the sewer. They couldn't fix it immediately and I was moved to another bungalow.

When I was there, I met two other Dutch guys and we decided we wanted to have at least once the same meal as the girls from the reception and the bar did had to order each evening them self at a delivery. It seemed that it did came from a delivery "restaurant" in an area that tourists normally never see because this is where they live. What we see at the tourist areas is not the real Dominican Republic. The Dominicans you meet here are or the rich and wealthy once or the working class that earns their money on tourist.

So because we wanted to eat at least once the same as the girls, we asked them to order for us too and we offered them to pay for their meals too.... That one time became an almost daily event. All these times we did order a meal, we also paid for the girls. The highest bill we got was about 12,50 euros (back then about 15 US$) for all 5 meals together. We could choose what we want to have: pork, beef, chicken or fish, vegetables or salad and potatoes, fries or rice. These meals were fantastic and never ever got problems with our stomach or intestines in contrary with one or two restaurant in the centre of Cabarete.

I hope the owner did solve this next thing, but unfortunately there is one thing I should make you aware of. Back in 2003, there was a whorehouse next to the hotel. These girls were strictly forbidden by the hotel owner to hang around in or in front of the hotel but they frequently did at night. In daytime they're hanging around in front of the whorehouse, but when it became night, they kept the guard at the hotel company, specially when it was raining at night, they stayed at the lobby of the hotel. As man alone (they won't bother men in company of a woman or kids) the first time you pass them they will bother you with their "services" but once you made them clear on a friendly way (there's no reason to become rude) that you are really not interested in their "service", they will not bother you anymore. You maybe will be bothered two or three times, but when they will recognize you and you will stay friendly with them, you will not having any problems anymore from them, not in daytime and not at night. Maybe just a small tease or a joke sometimes, but just answer them back with a joke and everything is fine.

One final thing, when you're enjoying your stay please don't be greedy and leave some money for the girls that are cleaning your room. Realize that these girls just make between US$80 - US$100 per month for their hard work. The same for the girls at the reception.
