In retrospect, this day could have been put to better use, but what is done is done. Was addicted to the idea of seeing Mt Fuji up close so I elected to do a day of travel. I took the Shinkansen back up to Hakone and bought a Odakyu Fuji Day pass entitling me to unlimited use of all possible mode…

Japan and China November 2005: Hakone Travel Photos

This was actually my 3rd trip to Japan and I did it because of my japanese girlfriend I had that time. This country is in many ways so different to what Westerners are used to, so mysteriours, that usually visitors either love it or hate it. There's not much in between. I learned to appreciate Japan already during my first trip and I knew I had to come back. China was something completely different. More chaotic, more dirty and more unpredictable. Like the big clumsy brother of Japan.

We soon left Tokyo and drove out to Hakone - more particularly, the Fuji-Hakone National Park. During the trip there were a lot of false alarms regarding sakura sightings - essentially the pink/white flowers that only bloom for a short period of time in Japan - when it happens, it is quite breathta…

Well, I was traveling to Yokohama for a long weekend and I read that Kamakura rivals Nikko for beauty and culture, so since I have already been to Nikko, I went to check out what all the fuss is about.  First off, its about an hour ride to Kamakura from Yokohama so it is not too bad.  I w…

Just a short train ride from Tokyo is a great beach town. Kamakura has temples, a large sitting Budda, good food, shopping, hiking, beaches and surfing. The hotels are not to expensive but I was just there for the day. The sunset pictures are from Endoshima a short scenic train ride away.
