Breakfast at our ryokan was a buffet of Japanese and Western-style dishes. It was the first time I'd really had salad with breakfast, but their miso-based salad dressing was delicious! The Japanese favorite natto, fermented bean paste, was served over hot rice. Dishes were labeled…

Today is my last day in Tokyo. Tomorrow I leave for Nikko, a couple hours to the north and tucked into the mountains. So naturally I spent my last day outside of the city. (I know, makes sense to me too.)This morning I took a train to Kamakura and did LOTTSSSSS of walking.

I moved to Zushi Beach area for a job while there it was great to breath some fresh sea air and take in the awesome sunsets on the beach.
In summer time the beach is crowded with people soaking up the sun and swimming, windsurfing, fishing, or yatching at nearby Hayama Marina,  …

Kamakura, Japan is not far from Tokyo and well worth a day trip to see The Big Buddha and a Temple that is within walking distance from the Big Buddha. If you not sure how to get there just go to a train station (or subway) and ask any young person; you will find out they are very friendly an…

Forced myself out of bed around 11:30 and dragged myself across the street to the train station to go down to Kamakura on a noonish train. Bought a sandwich at a kiosk and ate that on the way down as I needed something (why did I drink Tequila shots last night!) Got down to Kamakura a l…

I went on a day picnic from Tokyo with my friends. Instead of taking the shorter route thru Tokyo, we took the longer but more scenic Enoden Electric Railways from Shinjuku to Kamakura via Fujisaw. It was a fascnitaing journey thru old towns. We visited the Large Daibutsu Buddha statue, played around a bit on the dirty but quite beach and even managed a short visit to a graveyard at Tokeiji...another interesting weekend in Tokyo!

Yesterday and today I went to a local festival near Jimmuji train station in Zushi. Yesterday was kinda laid back, everyone hanging out, drinking, chit-chatting. There was a little stage with kids singing, a lady with a monkey doing tricks, and a band, as well as a little candy booth for the kiddie…
