Kamwokya Market Kampala Reviews
One Stop Shopping for Local Foods Jun 04, 2013
The Kamwokya market like Nakasero market has a collection of different vendors who come together to sell local foods as well as other household requirements. My mother has worked here as a fish monger for many years after she left the hair dressing business. She sells sun dried, salted fish. Two types of sun dried fish got from Lake Albert.
Other vendors have different fresh fruits and vegetables including but not limited to oranges, pineapples, guava, papaya, passion fruit, jack fruit, mangoes, tangerine, sugar cane, and more.
Vegetables range from cabbages, spinach, fresh red beans, green beans, peas, and some other local veggies that I can not name in English.
Stalled shops have milk, butter, margarine, sugar, salt, peppers, cooking oils made from peanuts and simsim/ sesame.
It is a one stop shopping for pretty much anything food related. Outside the market area, there is a pharmacy close by. The meat stands offer a variation of beef, mutton, liver and cow intestines, and chicken.
If you are in the Kololo, Kisementi, Bukoto or even Ntinda area, this is the market to go to for reasonably priced foods you can prepare in your home/ apartment/ or long stay accommodation.
