i've finally managed to escape the oh-so-fascinating world of hedge fund finance, and am now decadently indulging my long-suppressed wanderlust with 15 months on the road and around the world... *note: apart from the odd review (generally of something not found in your standard guide book), this is really more just a map of my travels than a proper blog, but if you want more information on anywhere i`ve been or what i`ve been up to, send me a message and i`ll see if i can rustle something up.

Finding Victoria. Many countries across the globe have honoured Her Majesty Queen Victoria and the Commonwealth. On my travels I will keep my eye out for various namesakes.

We arrived to Kampot by mini bus, it was a nice 2 hour ride and the bus only picked up 4 other people and 2 live ducks. Oh and not to mention 3 stops for police bribes! We checked in to a place called Moons Guesthouse. This place is owned by a young American guy from California but upon arriving di…

The hotel on the riverfront in Phnom Penh turned out to be run by Sam from Cheers, which explained the low-level prostitution. We got to Kampot from Phnom Penh by way of a dodgy minibus and then a dodgy real bus. None of the buses have air con when you need it and they all start really really early…

Julia and I had pre booked our taxi to Kampot from Sihanoukville, so as to avoid any problems haggling with the locals over price. What a pointless exercise …

It was just a half-hour motorbike ride from Kep to Kampot. Cambodia Highway 33 was a narrow black-top road that was smoother and much more comfortable than yesterday's back-country short-cut from the Vietnam border. Besides other motorbikes, very light traffic included a few ox-drawn carts …

Did nothing today. Again. We're getting quite good at this. Actually I lie, we found out my camera has a ‘smile shutter’ so had muchos fun with that for a couple of hours. Went back to Epic Arts Cafe and ate loads more cake and tuna melt. Seriously, it is THE best. Came back to the hotel in tim…

To Kampot, in a packed minibus with a motorbike strapped to the back. Spent half of the two-hour run trying to explain to an English-speaking Khmer girl why I didn't want to throw my empty coke can out of the window. Bad Cambodian pop music played on the radio. The trip cost me three dollars; the l…
