Kampen Vacation Guide
Kampen is one of the last Hanze Cities before the IJsselmeer. Kampen is first mentioned in 1227, but is probably older. Because they have found the ruins of an old Roman church. The oldest part of Kampen is to be found among the St. Nicolaas church. (bovenkerk) There the territory has its highest point. Kampen was flooded in the past several times. The best period for Kampen was between 1330 and 1450. This thanks to the trade. In Kampen you can see a lot of very old buildings and ships. There are several things to do troughout the year. Now (may 2009) there are a lot of old ships heading for Kampen. Really nice to see. And in December around the 20th, there is a christmas market, and the theme is Charles Dickens. If you are in The Netherlands, you should visit the Hanze cities.
There is a train station in Kampen with a connection to Zwolle.
