Kamikaze Teppanyaki Darling Harbour Reviews
A whole different experience Sep 18, 2013
We had passed this restaurant a few times before, and neither my girlfriend or I had ever tried teppanyaki before. Last time we were in Sydney we were going to try it but the rest of the people we were with were not that keen on teppanyaki.
Anyhow, we walked up to the restaurant and this 40ish old guy is standing in the front of the restaurant swearing over a computer. We are both looking at each other and starting to walk in. This guy stops us in the door and asks us if we heard him yelling, we said yes and then he yelled out "F@#$" again. He said sorry and that the computer was giving him a hard time. This was clearly the owner, and he just wanted us to laugh some and have a good time.
We sat down next to the BBQ they are using cooking stuff on and the waitress came over with some menus. The owner then came over and asked the waitress out for dinner, she said no and he asked me what he is doing wrong because she apparently always says no, haha.
We decided to have chicken and steak with their special sauce and teppan sauce on the steak. This asian guy, who was the cook, came out after awhile and handed over a tray with two burgers and some chips. He said "two burgers and chips, thank you very much! Next please". We looked at each others again and then at the cook, he started laughing and said he was late to work and that he was forced to do that to the first customers. The owner did apparently run over to the closes Macca's and bought that stuff and the ran back when we arrived.
After that he started cooking, he first pulled out some eggs and just fried them. Then he lined them up when they were ready, and literally shot them in our faces with his tongs or whatever that was. It was some game they were playing. He first told us to catch them with our mouths and after that he gave us a cup to catch them with. It was eggs everywhere when we were done playing and the poor waitress came over again with a mop, the owner was 2 steps behind her and asked her out for dinner again, and as usual... The answer was no.
The cook was really nice, he was talking to us the whole time until the food was ready then he left us alone.
The food was amazing. So many different flavours and it was a really amazing sauce he cooked the meat with as well. The view of the place was spectacular as it was on the top floor, 3d or 4th floor, of the building overlooking darling harbour.
This was the a great lunch, the experience was amazing and the cook and the owner were hilarious! Will definitely go back next time we are in Sydney!
