Kamiak Butte is, well, a butte. A butte is an isolated hill with a small flat top for those of you who don't know. This butte has an amazing view of the Palouse region, a one of a kind place in the world with rolling hills full of wheat and many buttes. It cost $2 to park for as long as you want and there are seven camping sites, at $10 a night. The trail is a 3 1/2 mile loop with great views along the way. The trees and vegetation are very beautiful and relaxing while you hike up. You are suppose to hike up the 1/2 mile trail to the top. This trail is much more inclined and a definite workout. The trail leading down is three miles and is much more relaxing and allows you take everything in. When I went up there, I took the "downward" trail up, so it really doesn't matter. Once to the top you can see out for miles. You can see Pullman, WA and Moscow, ID along with numerous hills. This is a must if you are traveling through Eastern Washington.
