Kaleidoscope Community House Ubud Reviews
Kaleidoscope May 19, 2013
I came to Kaleidoscope on the recommendation from beautiful Brazilian bebe that I met on the way. There is no way you will find this place in the “traditional” way through books, signs or maps… I was given their facebook page where I could find the way to get there from Ubud town and way to contact them and that was it, just the way I love it…
The full name is Kaleidoscope Community House and that should tell you what you will receive in this place. Answer is FAMILY if you did not get it at first hehehe
I don’t even know where to start with painting this image for you guys… Small road from the village of Petulu is what you are following to the almost not marked place. You have to ask for Rumah Sony art place, and that is the only way how locals will know where to send you. Village of Petulu is known for white herons that stay on the trees in the area during the night. Part of the road through the village is a toll road during the sunset time when birds return to their tree from the day of looking for food. Most of the villagers are wood carvers and you can see many people working on the carvings all day long.
Kaleidoscope has nice and spacious dorm with 10 beds and also a bit secluded double bed above dormitory. There are few other rooms located in the “towers” around the building and they are 100k comparing to 50k for dorm. Everything in this place has lots of character. All walls are painted or in the process of people applying their thoughts, ideas and art. Restrooms have very cool floors made of loose round stones that are not that easy to walk on, but after a bit adjusting, you will love it. There is hot water in the house and it is pleasant taking shower after going up and down cold volcanoes.
Bottom floors are used as a playground and art exploration spaces. There is also a dedicated studio where they mostly make recycled items made of inner tires.
Outside is a mostly garden with the back of the house having nice terrace and living area. Hammocks are all over and floor is covered with nice pillows and central position has a nice low table. Property ends in a canyon that continues into the web of greenery and jungle like background. I was told that some 20 meters down, there is another cabana, but the stairs are destroyed after some rain took the ground away…
WiFi is good but the best signal is around the center of the place. They have washing machine that you can use with a bit of donation for detergent. Warmly recommended for all of you who want to make friends and enjoy in real people with many interests. For this one I must add their website because you are not going to find the way…
Enjoy in fullest
