This is a fabulous hotel. Great location at Kololi beach. The grounds here are absolutely stunning. The most wonderful collection of birdlife. There is even a working observatory in the grounds which guests can use.
The hotels location, at the end of a dusty, busy street, belies it's tranquility and abundance of lush gardens. The staff are slow but friendly - don't expect to get served more than one drink in Happy Hour - it takes that long! The rooms are lovely and the food is good, but don't miss the opportunity to eat out at the many types of restaurant on your doorstep. Sit and people watch whilst having a very cheap cold glass of wine or beer and chat to the street vendors who wander round selling nuts, cakes and sunglasses. They love to chat and are not offended if you don't buy...there's always tomorrow! The hotel is on the beach, which is now protected from beach traders so you can laze happily whilst the waiters cater to your every need. The highlight for me was the monkeys who visit the grounds, sit on your sunbed and take food from your hand (although you are advised NOT to feed them everyone does). I have stayed in more luxurious hotels but love the ambiance of the Kairaba and will return. |
