Kagbeni Vacation Guide
Kagbeni is a Tibetan trading town situated in the Kali Gandaki valley and is home to about 1,200 inhabitants. The valley itself was used as an important trading route between India and Tibet.
The outpost town is an excellent short detour from the shorter route from Jomsom to Muktinath on the popular Annapurna circuit trek. A maze of alleyways and hidden doorways give this town a charming intimate feeling and is a wonderful view into traditional Tibetan life in Nepal. Hand-painted protector statues and stupas dot the town making for memorable points of interest although the spectacular mountain views from Kagbeni are the main draw for some.
Kagbeni is also known as the gateway to the Mustang region in Nepal. Foreigners wishing to enter the Mustang region must report at the tourist office in Kagbeni and purchase a $700 US visa.

I can’t even begin to describe Kagbeni. We didn’t see the town until we almost arrived. This was quite the surprise considering all we could see on the trail for the past hour was endless desert-like land. We were walking dry, dusty, brown dirt terrain dotted with low-lying shrubs an…
Dec 09, 2008 – May 12, 2009
After our visit to the Muktinath Temple Complex, we proceeded back through Ranipauwa, past our teahouse, and headed down the road to Kagbeni. It was a short walk of just under 3 hours, but we had another 1000m (3280 ft) to descent in that time. On my already achy legs it was a quit…
