Tasty Afghanistan Cuisine in the Mad City! Jun 18, 2011
I have never tasted Afghanistan food before and found it to be tasty! Some of it was similar to Turkish and Arabic foods but different enough to not be confused with other cuisines.
There was a vegetarian selection and some of the options were vegan friendly. The table also had two chutneys. one was a red pepper and the other was a cilantro. Both were great with the flat bread
I ordered a the vegetable cous cous. It was a chunky veggie stew seasoned with cinnamon and served over a plate of plain cous cous. The meal came with soup or salad and traditional flat bread. I made the mistake of ordering the soup. I didn't realize it until I had it front of me that it was made with meat. It was my fault, I didn't read the description completely. But my dad enjoyed the second bowl of soup! :P
At the end we enjoyed Baklava and Afghani tea. The tea was delicious!!! it had a delicous ginger citrus scent and a warm flavor.
The food was served really hot. Had to wait a little bit for it to cool down.
The owner of the restaurant was very friendly! He seemed to have a sense of humor and to be on very good terms with his staff. A few times he would come out of the kitchen to assist with getting drinks or to talk with the customers. He added a lot of charm to the atmosphere.
