I used KLM twice and my trip to Amsterdam was my first experience with it. Normally I would use LOT but KLM was much cheaper at the time when I was buying the ticket. 2 weeks later LOT was cheaper. Tough luck. Anyhow, I had very pleasant and calm flight.

While it is not a luxury carrier, it is definetly a friendly one. The personel was very smiley and approchable. The pilot seemed also very nice and had a sense of humor. The aircraft arrived on time and we soon after that we began boarding. All went smooth and relatively speedy.

The aircraft wasn’t the newest. The interior was very basic but clean. Seats were quite comfortable. What made me laugh was the First Class, which looked exactly like the Economy Class, just had curtain to separate it from the poorer class. Seats and space between chairs looked exactly the same as in economical class. Not worth to pay extra for KLM’s First Class for sure.

A complimentary drinks and snacks service onboard was provided due to the short length of the flight. The service was good but very slow. Food wasn’t the best. Sandwich was freezing cold, and on the return flight they gave only tiny pack of super hard chips! They save also on drinks. Drinks are for free but you get only a little bit of drink in the glass. Like ½ of the small glass. The glasses are super cute, with clogs, windmills, bikes and tulips. If someone sleeps they don’t wake up such a person for the meal service and just skip him/her. In other airlines I've used, the crew did wake up sleepy-heads.

Our descent into Amsterdam wasn’t that smooth, but Holland is usually windy so that’s why.

KLM is a good airline providing good service, fair prices and an outstanding supply of worldwide destinations from its hub in Amsterdam. I found it punctual. Would I use again? Yes.

Great national carrier. Nov 21, 2010
As our national carrier I've flown with them multiple times, both European and long haul flights. A professional organisation with loads of connections from Amsterdam to the world. Usually the prices are on or even below average. Somehow it's a nice final leg of a great trip to step aboard one of those blue birds :)

Great Service! Dec 30, 2008
The Royal Dutch air carrier KLM is well known in Europe for great service. For many years I favored them over other carriers like Air France and Sabena Airlines. My employer back home loved to "class" and to him, the Royal Dutch was a symbol of class even when flying economy.

O, the air hostesses know the meaning of service. I loved to hear the announcements over the PA in 4 different languages - Dutch, English, French and German. KLM is the International partner of Kenya Airways: together they make travelling to Europe from Africa so easy and tireless. Nairobi to Amsterdam is a non stop flight.

That is true about the merger Jacques. I have not used them since the merger. I have been flying Emirates internationally and most recent Swiss Air.

KLM merged with Air France (or was taken over, as the French would see it) in 2004. Even though the flight and ground crew try hard to keep up their standards, in many other aspects this has been a disaster (website, shared services, call center etc.). I know for a fact that many KLM staff feel the same way about this. Also no matter if KLM is making profit, it will all go to make good for the losses that Air France makes. I hope there will be a time that they can detach themselves from Air France again, really. Especially for their good-willing staff. Well, at least this is my opinion, others may dissent of course...
