Party? Where? (Updated Dec. '11) Dec 16, 2011
Jungle Party was not my first choice in Antigua when I came here for the first time, but combination of long day, no map of the city and no space in the first hostel I tried made me choose them. This time I came to hostel to compare prices and quality after almost a year since I have been in Antigua. I booked other hostel, but after seeing what the improvement in Jungle Party Hostel was, I decided to go back there with few of my friends that I have been traveling with.

Hostel is now very clean, well maintained, excellent big sturdy beds, and still no parties that continue through the night as name would suggest.

There is price range for dorms, and it goes from 60Q to 50Q in the attic area. It was slightly cheaper from the competition, for the top quality service if you are comparing it to the other hostels in town. Every bed has its own large metal locker that is integrated in the bed area. Also every bed has its own night light and power plug-in (which is super important if you don’t want to disturb people that are sleeping with you in the same room). Rooms are nicely painted and very well designed. Restrooms are clean, and some of them are mixed with the showers. There is lots of hot water, which is needed after climbing volcanoes, and roaming the city.

Breakfast is included in price, and it is actually very good size and taste (you can choose from the menu of 5-6 different meals). The drinks are sold separately, and I have been buying excellent coffee from the bar down the street every morning.

Hostel has lots of movies, and they run them after 4pm in the community area. Internet connection is excellent, and you can access it from your dorm room. Drinks are not too expensive (pint of good dark beer was 28Q) comparing with what you can buy in the store, and they always have few draft beers available. Community area has a lot of comfy seats and beach chairs, and most of the people hang around there in the afternoons, talking, drinking and exchanging stories. Small garden at the back of the hostel has few hammocks and chairs. You can smoke in that area.

Contrary to its name, there is no real party in that place, and they don't really try to make one either. “Happy hour” is from 3-10pm so I don’t really see the point of announcing anything. Bar closes between 10 and 12 pm depending of the day, and you are not allowed to bring your own drinks to the hostel. There is number of ok bars in the town, and party moves there.

Multiple tours are available from hostel, and also they can provide reservations for transportation to other countries in surrounding such as Honduras (to Copan).

Antigua become even more touristic and prices went up since last year. Touristic police takes care of security, and that is not really an issue.

Great Place! May 15, 2011
I have stayed at the Jungle Party twice and always had a great time. The location is central to the city, it's a small city anyhow. The happy hour pricing is on point and the FREE breakfast makes the Jungle Party an even better place. Each bed comes with it's own private locker. My large backpack fits in the locker with ease.

This hostel has a nice atmosphere with loads of information posted on chalkboards all over the place......too bad that just about every posted price/amenity was incorrect. On top of that, they tried to change the price of our room during our stay, despite having booked it a month and a half in advance. There is NO free beer as was advertised. Their Saturday BBQ has NO free drinks and costs more than posted on their own bulletin boards. Their happy hour is NOT the cheapest in town. DO NOT STAY HERE. Go to the Black Cat or Ummagumma if you don't want to feel like you're being taken advantage of. If for some reason you end up staying here, ask about the price of anything you see posted, because chances are it'll be more than they say it is. Also, if you do get overcharged, be prepared for at least an hour of haggling and pleading with staff that claim to not be able to do anything to refund your money. Overall a very bad experience (despite the really sweet golden retriever :)

@ $7 a night. This hostel is fun. Lots of backpackers. A very friendly dog named Tierra....I believe thats how its spelled...can somewhat correct me if I'm wrong....He/She is the best golden retriever I've seen. Central "chill out" area....lots of hammocks...candle lit at night....overall nice atmosphere...
