Jungle Lagoon Safari Lodge Sauraha Reviews
Comfortable and quiet eco-lodge Oct 13, 2010
Within the limits of the Chitwan National park there are only a few lodges and the Nepalese government is actually working on eliminating them altogether. Not a big issue, in my opinion. It is better for the preservation of the national park and along the fringes of the park there are lodges aplenty anyway.
The Jungle Lagoon is one of the many budget eco-type-resort options available. All of them offer similar type of deals for three or four day trips, all of which which can be booked from Kathmandu or Pokhara. A typical trip consists of accommodation, meals, an elephant safari, a canoe trip on the river, a visit to a minority village and a cultural performance.
I found the Jungle Lodge a very nice and cosy place. It consists of several cottages laid out along a green lawn surrounded by tall trees. There are plenty of small animals like birds, squirrels and, err, spiders.
The cottages are a bit run-down. Courtesy of the humid weather, but they're complete with all amenities you might need (as long as you're not expecting any air-conditioning for this price).
It’s quiet, removed from the road and if I didn’t know any better I would have believed I was actually staying inside the national park
The food is OK-ish. I found it geared a bit too much towards the taste of tourists. Then again, the spaghetti they served on the second night was a welcome change from the regular Dal Bhat.
The staff was also very friendly, with the owner really going out of his way to make us feel comfortable and welcome.
