Jumma Masjid Ahmedabad Reviews
Nice work! Feb 02, 2011
Situated near the older part of Ahmedabad, near Mahatma Gandhi Road, lies the wonderful mosque that is Jumma Masjid. This was another mosque that was constructed in the fourteenth century and financed by the ruling sultan and founder of the city, Ahmed Shah.
The stone used here is sandstone, and once again, there is a great combination of Islamic and Hindu styles. From the large spacing and huge open areas for prayers, it is quite apparent that this was built in order to serve as a public mosque, a purpose that is largely withheld to this day.
There are just so many domes and pillars within this mosque, and the mosque also has several entrances. To remember your way in and out well, just remember one of the features and then retrace your steps back after you leave. Otherwise, you might get confused about the roads that you face as you exit through the new entrance (although that is half the fun?!)
A nice visit if you are in Ahmedabad.
