Julio's Barrio Travel Reviews

Julio's Barrio - as close to "Authentic Mexican" as you're going to get this far north!!

This is one of my favourite restaurants. There are two locations in Edmonton, but the best one is on Whyte Avenue; Edmonton's epicentre of everything hipster and arty. Not only that, there are great shops, independent movie theatres and hostels nearby!

Most menu items are probably best described as "Tex Mex" rather than actually Mexican, but they still taste fantastic! You can kick up the spice (or not) and have loads of meat - or go vegetarian if you prefer. Either way - come hungry! Servings are BIG.

The nachos are especially good if you're in that kind of mood (or heading out to the bars afterwards) and for dessert, the comida de monos (monkey food) is a wonderfully (although VERY sugary) little platter that's good to share.

They won't take reservations, but even if you show up when they're full you likely won't have to wait long to get to your enchiladas!

Julio's is a REALLY popular place in the city and in the summer time it can be hard to get a table. They even open up a patio onto the sidewalk! I think it's best to cool off with a strawberry marguerita, and they taste wonderfully virgin as well.

Hasta la vista, amigos~
Look how cute you can be with on...

silan says: Dadeos is a great place to eat in the heart of downtown Edmonton on Whyte Ave. I was taken there by some friends in town for some excellent cajun food. The location's great to follow up your meal with a movie, club/bar, or some improv. Try the Po'boys and be sure to have the sweet potato fries!
