Julianadorp Overview

Julianadorp is a village named after the former queen of The Netherlands. The village was founded by building a church in a hamlet called Loopuyt. This hamlet was founded by mr. Loopuyt. Mr. Loopuyt asked permission at the queen, queen Wilhelmina, and recieved it within two weeks! So Julianadorp recieved its new name in October 1909.
During WW2 Julianadorp was called Loopuyt again, because the Germans didn't like the link with the Dutch royal family, but after the war the name of Julianadorp came back. Julianadorp is one of the very few places in the world that was named after a living person.
Julianadorps economy is largly based at tourism, most of the village is located near the dunes and beaches. Because of this there are several campsites, a few small ho(s)tels, B&Bs and even a holiday village. The part of the village near the sea is called Julianadorp aan Zee.

The entire village is easily accessible by bus from both Den-Helder (capital of the municipality) and Alkmaar. Den-Helder and Alkmaar are easy to reach from Amsterdam by train.
