Judy Garland's Birth Home Grand Rapids Reviews
Unknown history in a small little place Jun 17, 2008
Never knowing what you may come into when going to some historical sights my mom and I were hesitant. But the museum was a pretty good find. The first room was full of Judy Garlands time line of her life in show business starting with her first audition to her premature death and showing everything in between.
Some interesting facts is that her birth name was not Judy Garland it is infact Frances Ethel Gumm; while I was there I forgot to ask why she was named Judy Garland. She only lived in the house in Grand Rapids from her birth in 1922 to 1926 when her family went on a working vacation to California. And the Carriage in the movie the wizard of oz that was drawn by the horse of a different color was infact owned by Abraham Lincoln in 1863.
The woman at the front desk, who ironically was named Judy, was very passionate about her work and enjoyed talking to us about the history of the town and of Judy Garland.
