Juan-les-Pins is a small town in the commune of Antibes. It is famous for the oldest jazz festival in Europe. The town is a beach destination, with casino and nightclubs. The beaches consist of fine grained sand and are not in one straight line, but instead are cut with small inlets. The beach slowly descends into the sea. This, with the small inlets makes it pretty safe for children.

Situated west of the town of Antibes on the western slope of the ridge, halfway to Golfe-Juan where Napoleon landed in 1815, it had been an area with lots of pine trees. Indeed, the famous Pins of Juan. Inhabitants of Antibes used to go here for a promenade for a pic-nic in the shadow of the pine trees or to collect tree branches and cones for their stoves. Nowadays the beaches are well organized and maintained. The beach chairs are lined very neat and you´ll find numerous Plages with terraces, showers and cabins. All for a price though. If you´re not going to the public beach that is.

Jazz à Juan
Every July the village is buzzing with jazz musicians. The podium is placed under the pine trees on le Pinede, with the seats facing the Meditteranean. Along the street behind the seaside stage where the annual jazz festival "Jazz à Juan" is held, you will find ceramic tiles laid into the pavement with handprints of more than 50 jazz musicians who have played at this festival. At night the festival continues with jam sessions in several hotels.

Leaving the Luberon we had to get to Nice to catch a train from there on Monday the 1st. So we left early on Sunday to get to the French Riviera and use the opportunity while we still had a rental car to drive through some of the famous towns on the French Riviera. It was no disappointment and it is really beautiful. After an ice-cream and a short stroll in Cannes, we drove on to Antibes and Juan-les-Pins which was really alive with lights and markets so we decided to stay there for the night...
