Jowata African Licensed Restaurant Manchester Reviews
Nice spicy food in a homely setting! May 19, 2006
I had dinner here one night, at the rather expensive yet ultra tasty Jowata African Rstnt.
The owner is Nigerian and whilst waiting for your meal to be delivered, you could play with some of the drums there. It was fun though. There was this noisy Indian gang on another table drumming away bhangra songs and singing loudly... they invited me to join as well but I was just plain tired. Food was good albeit oily. It's a lot like Indian food, the lady herself said so saying that most of her patrons were from the subcontinent.
Downsides? Well, for 1 thing, they take only cash. This can be annoying for the weary traveller to go looking for a Cash machine in the dreary grey Manchester weather. Another thing is that they are understaffed, and the Nigerian lady seems to man everything - from the bill to serving to who knows, cooking as well?! It kind of adds to the homely feel as the title says, but the lack of hands can be annoying for those looking for a quick meal.
In a nutshell - go here if you're a foodie, if you want to have a leisurely dinner without having to rush elsewhere.
