I was working on an old steam ship, a tramp steamer, in 2008 and we made two trips to Aqaba in 2008. On the first trip we went from Lake Charles, LA with a partial load of grain to an Army ammunition base in North Carolina and loaded some military cargo to be delivered to the Egyptian Army in Alexa…

It's a sunny Thursday afternoon, sunbathing once again on the beaches of Tel Aviv after a round robin tour of Petra, the Dead Sea, and Jerusalem.  Where to begin?Landing smack in the beginning of Rosh Hashanah and finding the means to Eliat and towards Petra took some effort.  Then, I wil…

We eventually found a mini van driver that was willing to take the six of us from Wadi Musa to Aqaba even though all public busses had stopped for the day. The price was 7JD each which seemed reasonable. Once we were moving the driver insisted we all pay an extra JD each to make up for the empt…

51st state of the USA?
posted by:
Oct 12, 2004 – Nov 09, 2004
Finally, we covered new territory when we crossed into Jordan, described by our taxi-driver as the 51st state of the USA.  Surely not, I questioned him.  Wouldn't Iraq be 51st and Jordan 52nd?  He held his view firmly!

I finally got the chance to discover the beautiful Jordan. Heard a lot about it, read even more about it but everyone was right: you need to see it for yourself to experience it! Started out in Amman, the white city. The city has a long shape, with roundabouts that are used to indicate the way. So…

Three days ago I walked through the Siq at Petra, it is a long path that cuts through massive rock and ends at the Treasury (from Indiana Jones). It got more and more amazing as we walked through: the walls grew higher and since we went in the early morning, the path was quiet and still. When I f…

Amman and Petra-July 2006: Petra Travel Photos

Petra has always been a dream destination for me. After a few days of business in Amman, I finally had the chance to visit this ancient city. It was blazing hot of course, but that wasn't going to stop me! Petra was built by the Nabateans-ancient bedouin traders and apparently great architects and engineers as well. They built some amazing structures and hydraulic systems throughout the city. Incredible.
