Best Value Outside the City Walls!!! Jul 03, 2008

We spent four days in Rome last summer after finishing off our two week cruise and we opted to book the room ourselves versus through Princess as all their options were $400-600 a night. I was on a mission to find a hotel that had a shuttle service into the city (cab fare is INSANE in Rome) and a pool (since it was June in Italy)!!

I ran across the Jolly Midas and although nothing was within walking distance, they had a pool and a free shuttle! SWEET! We paid less than $200 a night and we were about 20 minutes closer to the airport than if we stayed within the city walls.

The room was nice with a great view of the pool area. The pool was like an Olympic pool with lanes for races and pretty deep in some areas. It was so refreshing to hop in the pool after a long day of sightseeing!

The shuttle ran timely, usually every 1/2 hour or so and dropped you pretty centrally located, near Vatican City. We hopped on the Tour Rome bus where you get on and off which was 2 blocks from our shuttle stop.

We ate at the onsite restaurant which was one of the best meals we had in Rome! Their restaurant featured local area wines and their special that night was handmade local pastas. YUM!

The only downside was the fact we ended up there during President Bush's visit and all the riot police were in our hotel so it was a bit loud at times! LOL.

I'd definitely recommend the Jolly Midas if you are looking for a great value hotel with many amenities but not for the usual Rome price!
