Jolahusid (The Christmas House)
Jolahusid (The Christmas House) Akureyri Reviews
Jolahusid (the christmas house) Apr 06, 2008
Outside of Akureyri (10 - 15km I think) near Hrafnagil is Jolahusid or the christmas house.
the house is red and has candy on the roof, santas clothes are hangin outside to dry and there are snowmen and santas outside.
and a calendar counting down the days to christmas.
when u walk in u will see that the house is really small and a lot of things for sale.
inside of the house is very special smell, smoked lamb which is icelandic chrismtas dinner and the fire is burning and the mix of these two reminds of christmas.
u can buy christmas candy, candles, the icelandic santa clauses ( all 13 of them, their parents and their cat), and almost everything related to christmas.
downstairs is a pile of stones and if u look carefully you will see Gryla, the evil mother of the santas. Gryla is evil and disgusting, stories tell that she only have one humanfoot and a horsefoot on the other leg. she carries around big sack that she put naughty kids in and takes them home to her cave and cook them.
I have always been good so I have never seen her in person :)
the owner of the christmas house is always dressed as santa and he really looks like one :)
I have had it as a tradition to go to the christmas house after my exams in december to really feel the spirit of christmas.
the house is open all year around, and it is really weird to go there in june, but it is always nice :)
