Amazing Yakiniku Aug 08, 2015
Yakiniku is Japan’s take on Korean BBQ, where raw meats are brought to your table and you grill your own food. Jojoen is known as one of the most famous Yakiniku places in Tokyo so we were really excited to try it out.

In contrast to many BBQ places, Jojoen feels much more upscale. Each table is in a private “booth” area, sheltered from the view of other tables. The grill has a fancy vent built into the table, so you don’t have a giant, ugly exhaust fan dangling overhead. After setting your coat and bags down on the seat next to you, the waiter places a cloth covering over them to prevent oil from splattering onto your possessions. In other words, the attention to detail is very high.

We ordered a bunch of dishes, far more than two people could eat, simply because everything on the menu looked good and we wanted to try everything out. Everything was excellent.

I’ll let the pictures below do the talking – but one dish I would highly recommend is the chicken legs / thighs. They were probably the cheapest thing we ordered, but perhaps the most flavorful chicken we have ever had.

This ended up being one of our most memorable and satisfying meals in Tokyo. Highly recommended if you like Yakiniku.
