Johnstown Vacation Guide

Johnstown, a city located in Cambria County, was first settled in 1770. The city was formally organized as a town in 1800 by Joseph Johns, a Swiss German immigrant to the area. Johnstown is most famous for three floods which occurred in the city: in 1889, in 1936 and in 1977. The first flood, which was called the Great Flood, was a result of the South Fork dam collapsing and resulted in over 2,000 lives lost.

Iron, coal and steel have been major industries in Johnstown. Today Johnstown is famous for its Inclined Plane (the world's steepest vehicular inclined plane), the Thunder in the Valley motorcycle rally and the National Folk Festival.
