so, i can't adequately capture the ways in which my trips to uganda have impacted me...but here is a snipet:) uganda is probably not high on the list of "tourist" destinations despite the reference to it being the "pearl of africa", the source of the nile complete with some of the best rafting in the world (but get there fast...they are planning to dam the nile to solve some significant energy issues at which point the rapids will be gone), and famous gorillas. although i am generally not m...

White Water Rafting at Bujagali Falls
posted by:

For the adrenaline lover, white water rafting at the SOURCE OF THE WHITE NILE is the ultimate push. It is said that the source of the Nile and its life-giving floods eluded many for many, many years. Explorers named the Ruwenzoris (Mountain of the Moon) as the source. This drew a lot of attention in the 17th century until Speke the English explorer found it in the last half of the 17th century. At the Source of the Nile is Bujagali Falls where White Water Rafting has become the newest additio...

Jinja...the Source of Nile

Headed to the famous spot for water activity in Jinja - the Bujagali Falls. It's a nice place with very nice campsite. It's a good place to stay for those who like Rafting or Kayaking. However, for me - a wanderer....one day seems more than enough...haha Surprisingly, the highlight to me here..was not the "Rapid-like" falls....it was the Chapati stall right at the entrance of the campsite....Tasty and cheap....much better than the "over-priced" meal in the campsite..

Last summer i spent 3 weeks camped on the banks of the river Nile. The army sponsored a few of us to build a well in a nearby village. We also did an 80km treck and learnt how to kayak the deadly rapids! Going white-water rafting and quad biking were an added bonus.

Flew into Nairobi, drove over to the Masai Mara and spent a couple of nights there before driving through Uganda to the border of the Congo. Crossed over and went to the Virunga National Park to see the mountain gorillas. Drove back to Nairobi, on to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti and finished up in Zanzibar.

My trip to Uganda, februari 2008. I was elected as representative of my school during a 9-day trip to Uganda. There we visited several educational programs that are supported by the Dutch organisation Edukans. After the trip all the participating schools started collecting money for Edukans, and ofcourse for the projects we have visited. Check http://www.edukans.nl/english/

Ok - so white water rafting - a fun outdoor activity for all the family?! Not on your life!!!! After our "safety briefing" (all of 3 mins) we were on the water in inflatable rubber dingeys (like you get for 5 pounds at the beach). One practice capsize later and we were off. Needless to say that at this point my (Denise's) confidence was not registering very highly, but that was nothing compared to the fear factor that took over about 5 mins later. We did a few small rapids then went straight ...

New Years Eve - drums and gorillas

Staying in Ruhegeri during a chuch election means a lot of drums playing all the time. But going out for the gorilla hike makes it unik. Then falling asleep New Years Eve in a African nightclub just ads a little twist to the whole day.
