Roast Duck and Sichuan Style Dining Nov 28, 2014
The Jingmanlou Restaurant (京满楼老北京烤鸭店) is quite large and good for gatherings of many people. It has a specialty of Beijing Roast Duck, but offers a wide variety of local Sichuan dishes. It has a Qing Dynasty theme in the decor and dress of the waitstaff. The Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) was the last of the great imperial dynasties in China. Beijing roast duck, while it began in Song and Yuan dynasties, became more popular and wide spread in the late Qing Dynasty.
The food is excellent here and there was opportunity to sample a large number of dishes. There were 7 of us including myself, but had enough food served for twice that many probably. This is usually the Chinese way and ordering food in abundance seems to be normal. There's usually plenty of take-home later so it doesn't get wasted really. Jingmanlou, established in 2010, has a few locations in the city, listed below, and the first specializes in noodles, while the remaining 3 specialize in Beijing roast duck. As I mentioned, however, even at these large 'Roast Duck' restaurants, one can order a wide variety of other dishes. The one we visited at 202 Yipin Tianxia is the most near the center of the city inside the first ring.
