Jin Ding Hotel Emei Mountain Reviews
Hotel at top of Emei Mountain Nov 20, 2013
This hotel is located on top of Emei Mountain, some 3000 m (over 10,000 ft) in elevation. On exiting the cable car station, descend some steps and the hotel is there on your right hand side. You wouldn't know it is a hotel really as there is nothing to distinguish it as such, but once you walk inside it becomes clear it's obviously a hotel. I was told by my Chinese traveling companion that it is the best hotel on Emei mountain. I am not sure if this is saying much as the quality of hotels up here may not be that high to begin with. I'm not sure about this, but that is my guess based on looking about.
The lobby is very fancy and nicely decorated, but is probably the best thing about this hotel. The rooms are quite small, but comfortable enough. The bathroom is extremely small, but nicer in decor than the room itself, which has rather outdated furnishings and is sort of plain looking. The views were not that great either and looked out onto an exterior alcove of sorts between the buildings with parts of the stucco falling down and bunches of wires strewn about. We asked to change the room, but apparently this was not possible for reasons I was unsure about as it didn't seem a very crowded hotel.
One annoyance was the lack of toilet paper in the room, which we had to ask for. Another was the fact that the hotel restaurant was located in another building you had to walk up a bunch of steps to get to. The food served here was not really all that good either and the building was cold inside too. Well, it's cold up on the mountain too, so this is forgivable I suppose. All-in-all, an ok place to stay for a night to view the sunset in the morning, but little else to praise here. Quite an average place, though it did have free bottled water and wifi. The shower was nice and hot too, always a creature comfort!
I should mention something more about the elevation of this hotel, which as I stated is over 3000 m above sea level. Most people will acclimatize at these heights, but some people might experience some minor problems even if they are physically fit when sleeping at such elevations. Those with pre-existing conditions like asthma, diabetes or a previous history of heart trouble should consult with a physician before ascending to such elevations. Remember, the air pressure is much lower, by about 30 percent, at 3000 m, which gives you less oxygen per lungful, and can lead to dehydration too as water evaporates faster at higher elevations. Just a warning to be careful, pace yourself and be aware of any abnormal changes in your overall health and feelings of well being.
