staying the night in a sauna - everything you need at a very low price. Dec 18, 2010
Jimjilbang is a phonetic translation of the Korean for a very expansive local sauna. You can sleep the night on beds provided at many of these for a small extra fee. As the locations are baths, and many Jimjilbang also have televisions, DVDs and various other entertainment options (even food), they can be the best bargain accommodation option on offer in Korea. Prices start at around 8000 Won for the night, but are more typically around the 15000 won mark.

I wouldnt recommend this every night (you dont get much privacy), but it's a hell of an experience as a one off. If you want to find a Jimjilbang, look for a sign on the street featuring squiggly lines rising above a circle. This is the standard sign for these locations. Go reasonably late, it's usually possible to use 'sleep' gestures to explain to the staff what it is you're after. While you're at it, why not try a 'cupping' treatment (vacuum suction against the back using glass cups) as an extra quirk? Fantastic stuff.
